How to Edit a Web Page
using the built-in (free) HTML Editor in CPanel

Strategy:
In CPanel, use the File Manager to "drill down" through your folders to the file you want to edit and then use the HTML Editor to have a WYSIWYG-style (WORD-like) editor, and then SAVE the edits back to the server.
The bulk of the instructions below are involved with "getting to" the file to be edited. Once there, editing is straightforward.

Details:

1. Login to your CPanel (either via yourdomain.com/cpanel or the CPanel login box on SherwoodHosting home page)

2. Click on FILE MANAGER icon

3. In a series of clicks on the GOLD FOLDER ICONS, "drill down" to find the file you want to edit. "www" is the top-level folder (directory) that contains all your web pages. Once you click on "www" you will see the file structure of your web site. Typically these are organized in parallel with your web site's home page navigation menu, and thus the filenames and folder names should be similar to the functional content of that web page or group of pages. Note: At this point, click on the GOLD ICON and not the folder name itself.

4. Once you've located the .html file to edit, then click on the filename. In the example below, we have subsequently click on the menus folder icon and now are shown the directory of that folder. In this example, let's edit the file called "editable-menu.html" by first clicking on that filename.

5. By clicking on a filename, the commands become available in the upper right of this page (you may have to expand your browser window to see these on the right side). Now Click on "HTML Editor." If you're nervous, you may want to create at backup copy for yourself by clicking on COPY FILE and fill in the fields to name the backup copy something like "menu-backup.html"

6."Please wait" will appear for a few seconds while the editor downloads in your browser. Once the editor and your page are displayed, you can scroll and mouse around to edit much like you would a WORD document. After you're satisfied with your edits (use the PREVIEW tab at the bottom), click on the save icon near the upper left (see red circled command icon below).

7. Unless you want to navigate within the File Manager to edit another file, we recommed to CLOSE your browser completely to eliminate the risk of accidentally deleting or damaging your web site. While visiting your CPanel and especially the File Manager, you are in the inner sanctum of your hosting account on the server. Use your browser's FILE> EXIT command, or the Red X in the top right corner of the browser window.
